If you could do anything and make a living from it, what would you do? What would give you the greatest sense of deep satisfaction and fulfillment on a daily basis?
You found something that interests you and you want to get better at it. Maybe you want to make money at it (or more money), write a book about it, or use it to help others in some way. Maybe you want to develop a skill that compliments your life and makes it better. It could just be that you simply love doing it.
Becoming an expert is not a mindless application of endless hours of practice. It’s not about doing the same thing over and over again until you get good at it. Being an expert is much more intentional than that. Anyone who is at the top of their game will tell you that’s it’s about learning the right things, not just everything you can.
To become the expert in any given field, you need to apply deliberate practice. You need to put your head down and work hard. You need to put in the hours.
Before any of that, though, is an even more obvious starting place. You need to know what to do. You need knowledge and information about your field of interest – and a lot of it.
